Atlantic Stone Carving Symposium

The Inverness County Centre for the Arts and the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design are pleased to present the Atlantic Stone Carving Symposium. This world class event is scheduled to take place in Inverness, Cape Breton August 28 to September 10. Seven Canadian Artists will participate in the first Stone Carving Symposium in Atlantic Canada. They include Kathryn Ellis, British Columbia; John Greer, Nova Scotia; Rudolf Henninger, Nova Scotia; Gerard Kelly, Newfoundland; Kent Laforme, British Columbia; Laura Moore, Ontario; and Vanessa Paschakarnis, Nova Scotia. Over the period of two weeks, the public will have a chance to look over the shoulders of a mixed group of artists while they are realizing unique sculptures out of Canadian Marble. There will be hands on demonstrations, slide presentations, a lecture series and more.

Slide presentations are scheduled to take place the evenings of August 30, September 1, September 6, and September 8. These presentations will take place at the Inverness County Centre for the Arts. As well, Rudolf Henninger, who lives and works in both Nova Scotia, Canada and Bavaria, Germany, will share his digital photos and videos of his experiences in both stone and steel sculpture. This program will take place August 17, 7:00 pm at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design and August 24, 7:00 pm in the Shannon Room of the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre.

All artists will carve Marble that is extracted from a new quarry on Cape Breton Island. Don't miss this opportunity!
